How is the dance class structured?
- Natalie and Mel are qualified teachers. They bring all the energy, talent and teaching knowledge to run the class.
- Natalie and Mel combine props and music to create an engaging experience for young children.
- Alison is a physiotherapist who has worked with children for 17 years. Alison loves group based physical activity and is passionate about modifying community activities to create opportunities for all kids to enjoy them.
- While Natalie and Mel run the class Alison works alongside parents to help them guide their children to participate in a way that is appropriate for their developmental level and specific gross motor goals.
- The music is paused so we can practise, children are not required to keep up with the speed of the songs and can join in and watch as they please.
- Each child will work at their own level on the specific skills we have been targeting in our individual sessions alongside their peers.
- The space is designed to meet the needs of the children attending, e.g. soft surfaces challenge balance and props are chosen to target specific skills
- There is an area that allows children to retreat from the main action and watch through windows of a cubby or one way glass.
- The music is quieter, the class is much smaller, the pace is slower and the sensory preferences of all children are considered.
- Alison moves around the class so each parent has time to ask specific questions relating to their child's progress.
- Babies and children watch each other and with time have the confidence to try things others have given a go.
- Boogie Woogie offers classes all over Perth so when the kids develop enough confidence, they can leave the Hub and join a class closest to home.
