Psychological Assessments for Children; beyond the label.

If you are noticing your child struggle with attention, learning, or school routines, navigating the next steps can feel overwhelming. At Walky Talky, we provide comprehensive paediatric psychological assessments—including cognitive (IQ) testing and ADHD diagnostic pathways—tailored to help families find answers.

At Walky Talky, we view assessments as more than just a series of tests. They are a way to deeply understand how your child’s brain is wired—their brilliance, their challenges, and how they experience the world.

A formal assessment provides a "roadmap." It helps parents, teachers, and therapists understand what support is needed to her your child thrive.

Paediatric Assessment Services

We provide comprehensive evaluations for children and adolescents in several key areas:

  • Cognitive Assessments (IQ): Helps identify your child’s unique learning profile, including their cognitive strengths and areas where they may need extra support.

  • ADHD Assessments: A thorough assessment of attention, impulsivity, and executive functioning skills through a neuro-affirming lens.

According to the Australian ADHD Professionals Association (AADPA) a trained and credentialed clinician, such as a paediatrician, psychiatrist or psychologist can diagnose ADHD. A psychologist, however, can NOT prescribe medication.

If you get an assessment for ADHD completed by a psychologist and later want to see a paediatrician or psychiatrist to discuss medication options, they may want to do their own assessment and/or further investigation.

Diagnostic Assessments What to Expect

Assessments can feel like a big undertaking, so we keep our process transparent and supportive:

  • Initial Parent Consultation: We meet with you first to gather a developmental history and ensure we are choosing the right assessment pathway.

  • The Assessment Session(s): Your child completes cognitive assessment to determine their strengths and challenges and better understand how they process information.

  • The Analysis: We gather data from school observations and teacher/parent questionnaires to get a "whole-picture" view.

  • The Feedback Meeting: We sit down with you to explain the results and provide the opportunity for any questions

  • The Comprehensive Report: You receive a detailed written report with recommendations.
